Eric Sanders: "Untitled"

When choosing a project or idea to focus our quarter's studies, this piece was inspired in the middle of the night from seemingly nowhere. Its abruptness eventually made sense for the resultant product's embodiment of our prompt, influences of the era(s), and various media into one body. Because it would come to cull disparate sound, photos, and video from varying sources and formats into one, the term "multimedia mixtape" was created to describe it. My goal with this piece was to create and emotive, beautiful work of visuals and sound that could somehow encapsulate the explosion of creativity of the original 1960s-70s counter culture and its eventual transformation into punk rock culture and specifically the "No Wave" scene of New York City's art-punk of the late 1970s and early '80s. I wanted an abstracted, elemental piece that could come over a viewer in a single motion of feeling, something that seemed whole while still containing history, narrative, and conclusion.    - Eric Sanders
